  • 2 medium onions (diced)
  • 34 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 (28 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 2 (15 ounce) cans red kidney beans (drained)
  • 2 cups broth (beef or chicken)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (plus more to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons sugar

Instructions

  1. In a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same pot, add diced onions and cook until soft. Season with salt, cumin, garlic powder, chili powder, and sugar.
  3. Stir in tomato paste and cook for another minute before adding diced tomatoes and tomato sauce.
  4. Return the ground beef to the pot along with kidney beans and broth. Mix well.
  5. Let the chili simmer for 15-20 minutes, adjusting seasoning as needed.
