  • ½ cup butter (room temperature)
  • 1 ⅔ cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 3 cups diced & peeled apples (approximately 2 large apples)
  • Optional: ¼ cup chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 1 ⅓ cups brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp half & half
  • 4 tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch springform pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time and incorporate vanilla.
  4. Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet mixture, then fold in diced apples and optional nuts.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for about 35 to 40 minutes until golden brown.
  6. While baking, prepare caramel sauce by combining brown sugar, half & half, and butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat until smooth.
  7. Drizzle caramel over the baked cake and return it to the oven for an additional 10 to 15 minutes.
  8. Let cool for at least 15 minutes before slicing.
